Bela Training

Wildside Activity Centre are a provider of the Basic Expedition Leaders Award.

The Basic Expedition Leaders Award is a national award, administered by the British Sports Trust and is part of the "Sports Leader Awards"programme of qualifications.
It is aimed at people who have the responsibility of looking after others, particularily the young, out of doors.

The course is not only relevant to those who wish to train others to carry out backpacking expeditions, but also for those wishing simply to take groups on a "day out".
BELA concentrates on activities in lowland country, not mountainous areas and is therefore ideally suited to youth workers and teachers who wish to take their groups into the "great outdoors".

The course teaches

Group on a hill at Pontesbury

navigation skills,
group management,
emergency procedures,
and gives the opportunity to put those skills into practice on residentials.
