Available Activities

Here are the different challenges available to groups.
Activity 1 - Canal Tyrolean
Pull yourself across the adjacent canal with your toes literally centimetres
above the waters surface. Hopefully!
Activity 2 - Rope Slide
From a large tree you will slide across the canal onto a small 'island' where
you can traverse out onto the Centre's car park using artificial climbing
holds.
Activity 3 - Bridge Slide
Using a caving ladder you will climb up onto a narrow walkway underneath the
old railway bridge. "Walking" along this you will come to a rope
slide which leads you safely back onto the towpath.
Activity 4 - Bridge Traverse
Starting the same as activity 2 you will traverse all the way underneath the
railway bridge to a point where you can be lowered onto a small 'island'.
From here by using climbing holds you will traverse out from under the bridge
onto dry land.
All sessions can be done on a 'one off' basis or alternatively can be linked
together to provide a five week programme designed to lead to progressively
more demanding activities.
We are always developing new challenges, so watch this space.

What do you need
to bring ?
You will need to bring clothing suitable for outdoor activities (by this we
mean trainers or boots and not jeans) with waterproofs if rain looks likely.
We do have a small selection of waterproofs and boots if necessary. For full
day activities a packed lunch will be required. Remember sun cream for those
odd sunny days!
Curriculum links
These activities comply with the National Curriculum Physical Education sections
at Key Stages 2 and 3. The principal links are:
(1) performance of outdoor activities in a different environment.
(2) being physically active.
(3) participating both individually and as members of a group.
(4) use of specialist safety equipment.
We can further extend curriculum links by including pupils in the planning
and reviewing of these activities.
