“One of the great benefits of volunteering is that it brings people together. According to the Mental Health Foundation getting involved in activities such as volunteering, mentoring and even random acts of kindness can improve our emotional wellbeing, help reduce stress and may even increase how long we live!”
volunteering at wildside
At Wildside we rely on volunteers, they are the lifeblood of what we do and help us to deliver on our aims of giving as many people as possible the opportunity to experience nature.
Many of our volunteers work with the Conservation Volunteer Group (see below), but Wildside also welcomes other volunteers from time to time in various roles to support our work. This may be occasional help, such as helping serve refreshments on open activity days, leafletting, gardening on our site and so on. Some of the volunteers who give occasional help are involved with us as Friends or Members and so are kept informed when we need help.

Volunteering opportunities
conservation Group
boat crew
The Conservation Volunteers group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays to undertake hands-on work outside improving habitats or creating better environmental spaces. The group provides opportunities to develop practical abilities for the work place and develops team work and other personal skills. The team is led by the Conservation Project Leader who has a great deal of practical experience and is professionally qualified in environmental management. Projects undertaken by the Conservation Volunteers have included building ponds for schools, canal bank renovation, tree planting and coppicing, or building fencing and seating.

Volunteer crew members go out on every narrow boat trip we offer, helping to ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers. If you would like to come on board to work as part of unique team, whilst enjoying the benefits of being out and about on the region’s beautiful waterways, then contact us on 01902 754612 for more details. Even if you've never been on a narrowboat before, full training and support is provided.
corporate volunteering
Corporate volunteering is a great way for employees to enjoy the fresh air, build stronger relationships, re-energise and de-stress, whilst having fun and making a real difference to the local environment.
We offer a wide range of activities including woodland conservation, canal side work, habitat building and landscaping projects. The programme can be structured to suit the needs of your business and your team

The Centre could not function without volunteers who help us with conservation tasks, the narrowboat, in the office or with our activities. We are enormously grateful for their support.
Health and Safety of all our volunteers is paramount and everything we do is covered by insurance and governed by risk assessments with a suitably qualified and experienced member of staff on hand to offer support.
Due to the work we do with children and vulnerable adults, we ask for volunteers to undergo a DBS check.
