Community Conservation Champion

This placement is part of a national programme – New to Nature – funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The role includes additional elements of training and personal development support provided by Groundwork UK and partners, as well as on the job training and support from Wildside Activity Centre.

We appointed our Community Conservation Champion in April and they will now  complete an in-depth induction programme with input from The Princes Trust, along with tailored advice and guidance from a Groundwork Youth Employment Coach at key points during the placement. This will include identifying skills and training opportunities or help with their CV and job search skills.

Our new post holder is being supported to forge their own exciting role here at Wildside, taking in the following duties:

  • supporting Wildside’s conservation volunteers to look after and maintain our habitats for local wildlife
  • working with Wildside colleagues to encourage community volunteering to protect local green spaces
  • supporting the delivery of outdoor and adventurous activities for visitors to Wildside
  • working with the local community to raise environmental issues, encourage conservation and raise the profile of Wildside and its programme of activities
