Mammals of the Canal Bank

This topic involves learning to identify the species of mammals that use the canal corridor for their homes or as a good hunting ground.
These include water voles, foxes, badgers, otters, squirrels, bats, bank voles, mice and weasels.

Depending on the group requirements, we can address such questions as where they live, what they feed on and how we can help protect them. We can include the signs that help us locate and track them.

Some members of our staff are trained to use mammal traps or footprint traps if appropriate.
Please bear in mind that most of the best known mammals like badgers and otters are nocturnal and will not be seen on a daytime visit.

We do not keep caged animals at the Centre.
